Professional associations and the metropolis create interior design commitment for positive impact.

The Pledge sets the bar high to inspire change in the interior design profession, recognizing that the climate crisis, health challenges and social inequalities all pose an existential threat to humanity and require urgent action on the part of people. designers.

The Pledge is an ambitious and broad framework to guide the choices of design professionals. This takes into account that as new information becomes available, designers can identify new concerns and develop more effective ways to have a positive impact. So, rather than prescribing solutions, the Pledge sets long-term goals that any designer can adopt.

“ASID stands alongside the interior design profession to support the Interior design commitment for a positive impact. This framework will encourage and encourage industry professionals to commit to restoring our planet. ASID is proud of the work we have done in collaboration with Metropolis review as we create a commitment that will activate and unite our industry in this fight. We invite all ASID members and design professionals to join us in making a positive impact on climate, health and equity, ”said Gary Wheeler, FASID, CEO of the American Society of Interior Designers.

The Pledge is the first stop on a journey. Over time, organizations and associations will develop and provide resources and guidance to help professionals meet the commitments set out in the Commitment.

“Today more than ever, designers must dedicate themselves to the idea that the impact of design extends our reach into the world at large, touching ecosystems, communities and individual humanity – all inextricably linked. Recognizing our ability to effect positive change in each of the intertwined strands articulated by this commitment is a first step in achieving that change, ”said Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, IIDA.

By engaging in the Pledge, interior designers will help transform their profession, keeping it relevant to the challenges of the 21st century while helping to build a more sustainable, healthier and more just society.

“By working in partnership with IIDA and ASID, IDC’s mission is to create a better industry for the next generation of interior designers,” said Trevor Kruse, CEO of Interior Designers of Canada (IDC).
